Ingredients

Punch
  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail chilled, sweetened; not pure unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 2 cups orange juice chilled, pasteurized, preferably pulp-free
  • 1 cup pineapple juice chilled, ready-to-drink
  • 1 cup ginger ale chilled, add just before serving
  • ice for serving glasses
  • orange slices and fresh cranberries washed, optional decorative garnish

Method

  1. Chill all four liquids. Measure the juices and ginger ale separately. Set the ginger ale aside and prepare any washed fruit garnish.
Chilled cranberry, orange and pineapple juices and ginger ale measured beside an empty pitcher.
  2. Combine the cranberry juice cocktail, orange juice and pineapple juice in a clean pitcher of at least 2 liters. Stir and taste the juice base.

  3. Just before serving, add the chilled ginger ale. Stir gently with a few turns of a spoon. Add optional garnish after mixing.
Chilled ginger ale poured into the Christmas punch juice mixture.
  4. Pour into glasses over ice, dividing the batch into six equal servings. Keep the remaining pitcher chilled between pours.

Notes

Makes 6 cups before ice or garnish. Nutrition is a rounded estimate using regular cranberry juice cocktail and ginger ale; brands and substitutions change the values. Garnish and ice are excluded.
Make ahead: combine only the three juices, cover and refrigerate at 40°F (4°C) or colder overnight. Use within 24 hours for this plan, or sooner if a label requires it. Add ginger ale just before serving.
Pure cranberry juice is much more tart than cranberry juice cocktail. For a less sweet drink, substitute sparkling water for some ginger ale; this changes flavor and nutrition. Use pasteurized juices.
