Why ingredient-aware conversions matter
Cups and tablespoons measure volume, while grams and ounces measure weight. That means a cup of flour does not weigh the same as a cup of sugar, butter or honey. The TasteWiser converter uses ingredient-specific estimates for common pantry ingredients so cup-to-gram and gram-to-cup conversions are more useful than a single generic formula.
US, metric, UK and Australian measurements
Cooking measurements are not identical in every region. A US cup is about 236.59 ml, a metric cup is 250 ml, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml. Choose the measurement system that matches the recipe you are following, especially for baking where small differences can affect results.
When to use a kitchen scale
Conversions are practical estimates. For baking and recipes where precision matters, use the weight listed in the original recipe when possible. A digital kitchen scale is generally more repeatable than measuring dry ingredients by volume.
